Abstract
The present study focuses on the development and characterization of a fibrous assembly from orange peel extract, well
known for its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. The investigation includes the extraction of the fibrous assembly
from an orange peel extract and its characterization in terms of morphological analysis, elemental analysis, chemical
group identification, as well as thermal behaviour. The fibrous assembly, which is predominantly amorphous and
primarily composed of about 2% lignin, 10% cellulose, 15% hemicelluloses and different polyphenolic compounds,
such as flavonoids, shows excellent moisture absorbency and antimicrobial property against E. coli and S. aureus
strains. The fibrous assembly has potential for applications in the wound dressing and healthcare sector.
